A figurine, according to the Larousse dictionary is a "very small statuette".

The Robert more simply answers: "statuette".

both military and civil history. They are produced using moulds.

They are of two main types: -Pewter dishes, which as their name suggests are almost flat and made of pewter.

- The round-bumps which are in volume and lead-based alloy.

Pewter dishes appeared in the 18th century in Nuremberg.

The first   rond-bosses were created in Paris at the end of the Revolution.

The catalog compiled over the last forty years includes more than 880 references.

It is the work of Jean Barrière † who made all the drawings and also part of the moulds.

He innovated by providing collectors with uniform documentation with each series.

The quality of these figurines is  recognized worldwide both for their fine engraving and for their serious history.

Flat pewter figures have always been engraved on both sides.

The subjects of these figurines are civilians (hunting and tournament scenes from the Middle Ages)

military (soldiers/soldiers of the old regime (king's musketeers, flags), 1st Empire soldiers).

The creation of these figurines passed first after the iconographic and uniformological research

necessary for the realization of ink drawings on 1/1 tracing paper. Each drawing was then reproduced to scale

on the slate mold which was engraved on the two parts of the mold.

The size of a figurine is generally 30mm (from the eye of the soldier to the ground) or 1/56th

also according to tradition. Some are in 54 mm like the series of Kings and Queens of France drawn

by Rousselot who was a military painter.

Their advantages are: their small size which allows in little

space to create a mass effect; their delicacy which makes each a work of art

The figurines are sold by series or out of series.

Soldier sets are comprised of twelve to fifteen unpainted miniatures

allowing the production of a small parade or a civil or military sketch.

They are accompanied by documentation based on the uniformity which is the

most of the time in colors. This documentation will allow you to paint them.

It gathers the necessary basic knowledge on the uniform or the costume which interests the series.

The historical context can also be mentioned.

All the figurines are engraved on both sides with the exception of the Virgin after the rose window of Notre Dame de Paris).

On the pages of the catalog reproduced under the heading Catalog ,

next to each drawing is the quantity of miniatures, if there are several of the same model.

You will notice that some horsemen, for example, have multiple saber blades

or more arms. Thus by cutting the sabers at the level of the guard or

the additional arms we obtain as many different figurines.
