The Marshal de Cossé-Brissac formed of these arquebusiers of the regular companies and gave them the name which they still carry.. Under Louis XIV was constituted the first regiment of dragoons which carried the name of Royal Dragons.
In 1668 Louvois created fourteen regiments of dragoons to which he looked besides the sabre, the rifle of the infantry and the bayonet what strengthened their peculiarity in the fight.

Under the revolution and the Empire the green coat of member of the Academie francaise and the brass helmet of dragons became famous. Their regiments covered themselves with glory to Austerlitz, Eylau, Friedland and in Moskowa. And at the time of lapels(backhands) in 1813, the old dragons of Spain, returned on the battlefields of Saxony, sowed(scattered) the dismay in the rows of the Austrians, the Russians and the Prussians.

In Waterloo, dragons again had to become famous during their loads discouraged on the plateauof Mont-Saint-Jean.

During the war 1914-1918, dragoons showed themselves deserving of their ancestors.
