Origin of dragoons: On October 20th, 1587, in the battle of Coutras, Henri de Navarre had the idea to make dismount to his arquebusiers on horse and to place them in the intervals of his squadrons. Thanks to this unexpected tactics the royal army is worsened; the squadrons of Navarre half less numerous than those of King knocked over these and determined the victory of the army Huguenot. The peculiarity of dragoons is to be able to fight on foot as on horse and to concern quickly their fires at any point of the battlefield.(read the suite)
